Hi This is a continuation from a post I placed on the Voip forums but as it concerns my modem, it crosses this Forum as well.
I have just purchased a Voip phone and connected through a Belkin modem. After the phone setup I have been unable to make internet calls although I am able to make calls Gigaset to Gigaset. My SIP provider suggested I disable SIP ALG. I contacted Belkin for help and found that the Belkin is factory preset and can't be changed. I have made the decision to purchase a new router. My question is Any suggestions what make and model I should be looking to buy? Price, within reason, is not an issue.

What is your actual problem?

I can't really recommend a device because the reality is probably 95% of routers out there do support disabling the SIP ALG. Without knowing what the issue is it's not possible to actually know if that is the cause of an issue.

Getting a good router will probably help the setup of the network in general. But there are a few things we need to know before we can make any suggestions.

Firstly we don't know if you are after just a router, or if you need a modem as well. I am presuming you want to use this with UFB? If its ADSL or VDSL then the list will be different again.

Also what are you using for your voip hardware? Is it a voip phone? Or is it a separate unit like a PAP2T.

I used to use an all in one Fritz Box but had so many intermittant problems with the VoIP, and the wireless range was pretty poor that I got rid of in in favor of separate units.
(DV130) - VDSL Modem - bridged

(microtik RB2011iL-IN) - Main Router

(PAP2T) - Phone System

(Unifi AP) - Wifi Access Point

Im not saying you should necessarily do the same. But I have had no network issues at all since I set all of these items up. My WiFi range is great, my internet speed is great everywhere in my house on all my devices, my VoIP never has one way voice anymore, and it sounds clear and the phone rings properly and not delayed. And in addition I have more ethernet ports available for devices at home (which I was somewhat limited with the fritzbox).

You can only disable the sip ALG if they actually have one on the router. Has belkin confirmed that it does manipulate the sip traffic as part of its nat stack? Seems pretty rare now on the routers I have looked at recently.

I have a Gigaset C530AIP phone which is capable of making calls on both copper line and internet. I am running it through a Belkin, F7D2401 VI Modem /Router. I am able to connect calls using the copper lines and can also call Gigaset to Gigaset (via the internet.)
I then joined 2Talk. They can see that the call had been initiated but not received at their end. Their suggestion was to ""disable Gigaset SIP ALG. "" After searching through all Gigaset settings I realised it was a Belkin setting. I then called Belkin Helpline. They advised that this model Belkin settings were factory preset. They were unable to offer any help. As I said earlier I am open to purchasing a new Modem (or Router, whatever is needed )

If it has no sip ALG on it modifying the sip traffic then it will not be the belkin.

Try the gigaset on another connection to verify that it works somewhere else before going and changing the router out.

If Gigaset to Gigaset calls are working then a SIP ALG is unlikely to be the issue.
