I have recently noticed that my router, Linksys EA6700, is broadcasting three different signals, where I am only expecting two.
When I say recently, I mean I have used the android Wifi Analyzer app by farproc in the past, and never seen the new ? network before.

5GHz Named correctly with a mac of c8:d7:19:55:6c:cc
2.4GHz Named correctly with a mac of c8:d7:19:55:6c:cb
2.4Ghz Called '?' ca:d7:19:55:6c:cd

It is a near duplicate, but not quite.

Can someone please explain to me why the mac that identifies the manufacturer is different? Ie starts with ca:d7:19 instead of c8:d7:19. Why is it even here in the first place?

I know it is my router, as any changes to the 2.4GHz network is mirrored by the ? network.

The router is a Linksys EA6700.

Thanks

Do you have the "Guest" network enabled in the router settings perhaps?

Just checked our Linksys router (X3000, 2.4 GHz only). We have the "Guest" network enabled and so have two 2.4 GHz networks on the same channel but with different SSIDs and different Mac addresses.

No the guest network is not enabled, and when it is the guest network is correctly labeled as such, and a mac of c8:d7:19:55:6c:ce appears.

When the guest network is on or off, the ghost? broadcast is still there.

I never thought to check the SimpleTap NFC, as I had disabled some time ago. I must have turned it on for some reason, and never thought about checking it again.

Thanks.

Sorry for the blunt reply - if you hadn't figured it out, it's the hidden SSID used for NFC WiFi association, and only works with 2.4GHz.
