Hi All,

Interested in your thoughts for a reliable VDSL modem with wireless functionality.

Fritz Boxes seem to be the go to...just interested if there are any other decent Value for Quality products out there.

For commercial premises we use Draytek branded devices, and a good number of VoIP providers use this brand for its stability. The local distributor is Snapper Network Distributors, and Richard the head of Sales would likely be happy to have a chat. Like the FritzBox devices these are not cheap. I've had a Fritz and the DrayTek's are more flexible in my opinion. Replaced by Fritz with a Draytek to work around some VoIP-related frustrations. I have never looked at the TR069 (?) provisioning options for the DrayTek but I know it exists.

The Huawei-manufactured routers that Spark and Vodafone give away like candy are just not reliable for all but the most basic installations. The more wireless devices you use the less stable they are. We are having chronic issues with port forward pinholes dropping off after weeks/months. Upgraded to a Netcomm at home and am reasonably happy with this so far - the wireless stability is much better than the Voda-supplied device. Also have a Netcomm driving my BigPipe Fibre happily at work and a DrayTek on our VDSL connection. The DrayTek has been the most stable by far.

This will be for home use however needs to be reliable.

Alot of the spark / vodafone modems drop out restart etc...Draytek are reasonable but seem to be super expensive.

Netcomm NF8AC is good.
Solid, stable in my experience. ~$200 from pbtech

We give out the Innbox V51 for basic installs with no special requirements.
Compared with the netcomm we used to give out these have had a much much much lower failure rate out of the box.
AC wireless, gigabit ethernet etc.
Nothing special at all but for sub-$200 it's hard to beat.

Distributor is ConnectPlay.

For complex/important jobs we use a draytek/mikrotik combo. Draytek for a reliable DSL modem and the mikrotik for best-in-class router.

May I suggest something that tends to elude most people when they ask which all in one router that does VDSL and has good wifi.

If you are planning on spending about $300 on a fritz box (7390 or a newer 7400 series one, unless you get a cheaper 7340 which Wi-Fi is rubbish, I know this because I had one).

Perhaps consider where you are going to put it, where is your master filter going to be installed? At one end of the building?

If its in a good spot then great go for a fritz 7390 or newer. But if its not a good spot to put an access point, then consider a separate modem/router and WiFi access point(s).

Also the Dreytek units are solid. I ditched my 7340 for a Dreytek DV130, router and a separate access point and its been great.

I was looking at a Fritz!Box 7390 i can get it for $150....worth it?

I don't think that is a bad price. And if ufb comes to your area later you can use the fritz as a router.
