I am on Bigpipe and want to upgrade my 200/20 UFB product to 1G on 1 October. I currently have a Draytech router which is performing well but its range is limited. Can anyone suggest a reliable UFB router that will be compatible with a UFB 1000/500 product and has good range? Be interested to hear from any Dunedin Gigatown users?

What are your requirements?

The Big Pipe supplied and supported HG659b is a good device and works well with 1Gbps plans.

I have used the HG659 and found it not that reliable? Had to reset it continually? any other suggestions?

The HG659b is a very good device. I don't know why you had problems. Without knowing your requirements however it's not really possible to answer your question, there is no one best router for all different scenarios and users.

Every week somebody comes along asking that very same question, so there are literally hundreds of threads on here answering that very same question. There is also a sticky post at the top of this forum "The router guide - what is best" detailing lots of different options and probably answering lots of your questions.

I think you should make sure you have the latest and greatest firmware for the HG659b. Hey it will cost you nothing considering you already have the unit.

There are other options, but you need some pretty decent CPU power for 1gbps. Generally a Dual Core chip.

Based on the OP you're mainly using WiFi. I am just going to get this out here.

NO ROUTER will support 1gbit WiFi reliably no matter what router you have, or what device you're using it with.

If you want full Gigabit speeds, and a reliable connection you need to use Ethernet on devices that support it.

Totally agree just trying to get a modem that an deliver fastest speeds under a 1Gb/s service. We have TV's connected by Ethernet
