Hi

Has anyone got a WAG325N all in one device (Linksys WAG325N ADSL2+ Modem/Router, True firewall, Ethernet, 4xRJ-45 ports, 802.11b/g/n (draft) Wireless )?

Any comments on it?

I am thinking of replacing my WAG54G. Its best described as hopeless as it overheats when you use the modem and router at the same time. Wireless connection keeps dropping in and out.

I've put a few of them into customers homes and never had a problem with them.
They get great wireless coverage (even one that I put inside the patch panel in the garage covered the whole house) and seem to run very stable.
The only problem I've come across was when one customer was trying to connect to their work VPN using some Cisco VPN software.
Solved this problem by putting port 500 into the port triggering page in the router setup.

I upgraded at the end of last year from a Dynalink 770W in order to get ADSL2+ speeds once our local exchange was upgraded. In reality it didn't help much as I am about 2.5km from the exchange - hope is in sight, my line is due to be cabinetised sometime early next year.

I've also been experimenting with getting an IPSec VPN connection configured from home (the WAG325N) to a Linux box at work running StrongSWAN. I haven't quite got there yet but it's close, still have some routing issues to sort out.

In general the wireless range is not quite as good as the Dynalink, basically 3 or 4 strength bars versus a solid 4 with the Dynalink. This is hasn't caused any problems but I'm usually one wooden floor, a wall, and about 5-6m from the router.

The Linksys web interface doesn't provide as much information as the Dynalink but you can telnet to it (it's running an embedded flavour of linux) and use the adslctl command to get very detailed information about your connection. DMT (http://dmt.mhilfe.de/) is quite a useful tool for viewing this information.

Finally, I recently tried upgrading the firmware from 1.00.8 to 1.00.11 and this tended to make the ADSL connection less reliable, it was dropping out and staying out while I was at work even though I have a machine at home that uploads data to a remote server ever five minutes. Dropping back to 1.00.8 has solved that problem.

So I guess I'm not over the moon about this device, it does the job and has a couple of features I wanted (ADSL2+ and IPSec VPN support) but previous experience with three models of Dynalinks spoilt me a little, these were rock solid on all fronts.

I had one of these and returned it. The signal strength was good but as it is DRAFT N it does not allow the full N speed but supposeedly this will happen via a firmware upgrade when the draft becomes standard (sometime next year I think). The main reason I returned it was becasue it does not allow the Xbox360 wireless netwrok adapter to connect to it and this was supposedly broken with the lastest firware realese.

I did use there live tech support chat and even though they didnt solve my issue they were very helpful and firnedly so support IMHO was good.

I am waiting for the new ones to arrive in NZ that are on the linksys site.

I never had any problems with N speed with my Acer laptop, that also has a draft N wireless card, while testing.
I also never had any problems with coverage while testing.
In one place I installed one it was in the garage, in the patch panel enclosure which has a metal casing, and signal was good at the far end of the house which was through about 4 walls.
