Hi. I've been asked to setup network access in a building next door.

BuildingA has fibre and a HG659b providing wifi.

There is an ethernet cable running from BuildingA to BuildingB.

We would like to have BuildingB providing wifi access to BuildingA's fibre connection by re-utilising an HG630b.

I have a fair idea how to go about this, please let me know if I am missing anything or just plain wrong anywhere.

Change DHCP on HG659b(A) to a shorter range, say 10-100.

Change IP address of HG630b(B) to be not the same as HG659b(A).

Set HG630b(B) to bridge/AP mode.

Set up DHCP range with 101-200. (If I turn DHCP off will devices connecting via HG630b(B) get their addresses from HG659b(A)?)

Create new SSID on HG630b(B) that is different to HG659b(A). (The wifi signal from HG659b(A) is detectable in BuildingB but is quite weak.)

Cross fingers.

Will that do?

You should disable DHCP on the 630b. GIve it an IP on the same subnet (but outside the DHCP scope) if you wish to get into it. Set the WiFi to the same SSID and security but put in on a different channel - you should only ever use 1,6 and 11 for 2.4GHz WiFi and always ensure you are only using 20MHz.

Now plug into the LAN port of the 630b

OK, I am off to do this this morning.

It looks like @sbiddle has the definitive configuration as no one else has any suggestions.

Wish me luck!

Cabling?

The cable that runs between the two buildings...

A LAN port on RouterA, and the WAN port of RouterB?

He did say this, "Now plug into the LAN port of the 630b"!

Yes he did, and I missed it.

So I think it's all going now.

Is there anywhere on the 630b where I can check devices are connecting to its wifi and not the 659b in the other building?

I'm trying to find something but the 630b keeps logging me out every 10-20 seconds (I'm surprised I've gotten this far with that little quirk going on!)
