We currently have a USG, a basic switch, and an AP. All rooms have data ports but one of those rooms have been set-up for home office usage and it has at least two computers we want connected wired. I read daisy chaining switches is not OK so may I ask if I can use USG's LAN2 port to set up a new network and put a switch in the office? The other switch will be for LAN1 and other rooms. Is that doable?

Sorry for the question, still learning using these kinds of equipment. If anyone can direct me to a walkthrough or something to make this work :D

Side question/s: Could I also deploy geoblocking DNS in one of the networks? Would would the devices in LAN1 and LAN2 still talk to each other?

Note: running another CAT5e/CAT6 cable not doable as it's a rental :(

Daisy Chaining switches is perfectly acceptable, I would do that. Just remember it'll only go as fast as your uplink to the other switch so each computer for example will share 1Gbit from the uplink to the other switch.

Don't use LAN2 on the USG as this is switched by software = slow. Regarding Geoblocking have a look at the private forums you're already a member of as there is some USG examples.

Lan 2 on it works fine for other devices accessing the internet, only if you are passing things between them does it matter.

I have heaps going thru the software bridge on my USG here - IP cameras between their vlan and the one with my desktop PCs and the NVRs and even with a solid 80ish megabit across it, no change to internet performance. Might have to revisit that when I get fiber but thats still ages off.... thanks chorus..

It may be acceptable as a worst case scenario, but you should be aware of problems such as making it more likely to have problems since you have many possible points of failure with daisychaining. Its still a worst case option that introduces contention at every point, but the only economic option in some situations. Its often not the only option, especially if you have an under-floor space to run cables and do it properly.

Time to find a new industry!

I haven't set up this yet because I am having problems with my setup... The devices (USG & UAP Pro) keep on showing as disconnected and we would lose internet :/ We're not home most of the time and I just noticed now when I logged into the controller, there were so many alerts regarding the devices being disconnected from time to time.

Now scouring the ubiquiti forums for answers...
