I'm going to link my PC with an iPAQ H1945 (but I haven't tested the connection yet since the adapter has arrived before than the iPAQ).

I have a Hawking bluetooth adapter and I thought I had successfully installed the Widcomm drivers, but sometimes short after I start Windows (XP sp2) I get the message "ERROR: Unable to start the Bluetooth stack service". I have followed the instructions given by Hawking, but I used the drivers on their website (ver 1.3.2.7) since the ones provided with the CD (ver 1.4.1.6) did not work at all.
Even with this message the thing seems to work, since the icon on the taskbar gets blue when I connect the dongle and when I check the "advanced configuration" the adapter seems to be recognized by the software, but as I have said I couldn't test a connection with the Pocket PC.

1) What should I do? What does this message mean?

2) Are those drivers device-specific? Or I could get them from another website?

3) Is the Hawking USB bluetooth adapter (model H-BT10U) good?

4) HOW SHOULD I CORRECTLY INSTALL THE DONGLE, since it is not directly supported by sp2?

Drivers 1.3 are ok, no need for 1.4 unless something really special is needed. Have you installed the drivers before or after SP 2?

Hello!

I have installed the drivers after I installed the SP2. Does it change anything? I think I'll be able the test a connection today, because my PDA arrives today. But what does this message mean?
I don't know if it changes anything, but my Windows XP is portuguese (BR) as well as the SP2.

I'll add my 2cents worth...

I bought a ActionTec USB bluetooth thing to talk with my wireless phone. It worked fine until, as you state, service pack 2. The CD that ActionTec sends out with their USB thing is actually from WIDCOMM. 1.3.2.7 is the version on the ActionTec website.

So, if anyone else has a suggestion.......

Yeah i have the same problem.. I'm guess you've installed the lastest nvida drivers for ur display card, mine came up with same same error after updating my video card drivers.. I have xp sp2 as well. I'm not sure of a fix as yet.. downgrade drivers perhaps.. theres some type of conflict anyways

Well, well. Seems others are facing the same problems. I am running an older machine with Win98SE. Also using the H-BT10U from Hawking. For a year I have been running two of these flawlessly, using the Widcomm software provided. Today, I got the famous ERROR: Unable to start the Bluetooth Stack Service. I have done four uninstalls, reinstalls, with safe mode boots in between to even delete all bt- DLLs and other files in the System directory, as well as cleaning out all the bluetooth related junk I could find that still lingered in the Registry. Then again a clean reinstall. Foop. Same ERROR. I haven't installed any other new software that would interfere, and the darn thing was working perfectly until yesterday.

The Hawking H-BT10U is a very reliable, robust Bluetooth dongle. I have had only great success using both of mine with phones, other computers, and PDAs. I am completely stumped. Someone a lot brighter than me might find a challenge here. I really hope they can provide a little help or a workaround. Best to all of you and keep plugging away!

Heya, well, after reading this thread, a great wave of relief has come over me, IM NOT THE ONLY ONE!!!!! i have an axer lappy with inbuilt BT (unsure of the specs, i dont know where to look :#) and i've been getting the ERROR: Unable to start Bluetooth Stack msg for about a month... WHAT DOES IT ACTUALLY MEAN????????? and how do i make it go away? all my BT functions seem to work as per normal...
