I have slingshot and currently I have a modem that connects over PPPoE over vlan 10, it also does the VoIP for homeline.

I've connected a laptop directly to this port and still accessed internet without any PPPoE settings.

Will the port work with any WiFi mesh solution that doesn't have PPPoE? Also would I be able to attach a ATA to the hub's Ethernet port and still get my VoIP service?

I.e. GE1 ---- WAN of WiFi hub --- WiFi mesh to nodes / LAN of WiFi hub to VoIP ATA

1) No, don't attach an ATA. It'll be exposed directly to the internet. Ensure this is behind a router.
2) Use a router - WiFi mesh solutions are routers too (I have not encountered one that doesn't have PPPoE yet).

Only a single device can be connected to your ONT - you can't put in a switch on this port unless if you have a service that provisions multiple IP addresses (expensive). This single device is your router and from there things connect to your router.

The Ubiquiti Amplifi and Netgear Orbi will work fine as routers + mesh products.

Hi Michael, I think you're helping me with my ATA config in another thread!

Background: I've been gifted a Luma mesh WiFi system from a friend from the US along with the SPA122 ATA. Luma does not have PPPoE enabled and is a simple device with smartphone app UI. (https://support.lumahome.com/hc/en-us/articles/221018367-Will-Luma-work-with-my-current-ISP-)

The fact that it does not support PPPoE may be a contributing factor to my voip woes, but i'm not sure I need a PPPoE if the GE1 port can distribute internet without a login as on a laptop. So I can plug the GE1 to my luma hub's ethernet IN port, and then have the ATA on the luma hub's ethernet OUT port.

If all this doesn't work, I'll just have to use the netcomm modem Slingshot provided, for voip an PPPoE login, disable its WiFi, and attach the mesh system to one of its ethernet ports.

Yep you'll need to use the Slingshot Router here. Just disable WiFi and use the mesh system.

Check carefully whether that can be used in New Zealand - There are significant WiFi channel and power differences between US and NZ and if it cannot be set to NZ standards may well be unlawful to operate here.

Are you sure that you were using PPPOE when you connected the laptop directly to the ONT? As it seems more likely that you were actually connected via DHCP. Orcon own Slingshot, and Orcon use DHCP. So they could have easily changed to using DHCP instead.

No I was wrong, I was using an old laptop that had the PPPoE configured already.

If I get an ubiquiti er-x, I think I can ditch the netcomm. I like the idea of not having all-in-one devices.
