We've got a couple of different networks set up in our house - downstairs we only really use the 2.4 band, as most of the time we're not that near the router and hence won't make the best of the AC wifi. Upstairs though, on the second network, for some strange reason we can only connect to the 5Ghz network - every time we try to connect to that 2.4 we get an incorrect password error/unable to connect (even though connecting to the 5Ghz band up there is never a problem, and they share the same password.

Tried changing wifi channels, but to no avail.

Both networks are using a HG659 from Vodafone

Anyone have any ideas?

I meant yes I'm using 2 - the model number I put in brackets was just relating to the model number, as he asked if I was using two HG269s, but they are HG659s 🙂

And have you double-checked the wireless settings are the exact same on both routers?

All WLAN Access and WLAN Settings are the same, yes (apart from the SSIDs and passwords as there are, as previously stated, two wifi networks)

I'm still slightly confused - do you have 4 different SSIDs in your home across the 2 routers?

I think he has two 659B's, same WLAN settings (bandwidth etc, everything bar SSID/PW is the same), but a different SSID and PW on each.

Try Changing the SSID on that 2.4Ghz wifi to something else , something completely new , and separate SSID from the 5Ghz
Strangley sometimes that fixes issues when some devices wont connect , especially if that SSID had once been used on other wifi AP's

Is BSSID the same as SSID? If so, then no they are on different SSIDs

BSSID is a unique 48-bit identifier similar to MAC address by its purpose. If you have single network on a radio it usually equals to MAC address of that radio. In case of multiple networks configured on the same radio some "random" BSSIDs are used, how random they are depends on router's management software.

Symptoms you describing are quite similar to the duplicated BSSID problem I ran into in the past. But you have no more than one network per radio, right? So you should not have this issue even hypothetically. You can get BSSIDs of your 2.4G networks using some wifi scanner and compare them just to eliminate it as a possible cause.

No, just one network per router. I've downloaded a net analyser app, so will look into the BSSIDs soon, just in case. Thanks!
