As the title suggests I'm looking to score a couple of brackets for a 16 port switch I managed to get a hold of so I can mount it on my small rack I have in my closet.

I have a 2U rack mount, 1 will be for the Patch panel, 1 for the switch.

I used to have a few of these brackets, but as yourselves have probably done the "I haven't used these for years why am I still holding onto these?" and promptly thrown them away.
Well I did this and now I find myself wanting a couple.

I aquired the switch after work decided they didn't need it and I really wanted to clean up the rats nest of a network I currently have. So after about a year of putting it off I have manaaged to get to a point where I actually need to mount the switch and wouldn't you know it, I can't find the brackets I thought I had.

I tried to go into my local PB Tech but they don't have anything useful.

So has anyone got a couple I could score/buy?

Postage woud obviously be paid for.

What brand?

Every single vendor uses different holes for the rank wings, and these can even be different even between different models from the same manufacturer.

Hi Sbiddle.

True they do differ, but I can surmount that (drill new holes).

In my experience they have been fairly similar in placement, but it really doesn't matter too much, I just want to hold the thing up on the rack.

Anyway its a 3Com 16 port switch.

Wouldn't it be easier getting a tray / shelf and then you could mount the switch and the router if required?

I'm with Biddle on this one, getting rack mounting arms for a "16 port switch" can be very generic. Some have a small form factor and don't take up the whole width and others just require small mounting lugs on the side as they are a full sized switch.

Wouldn't it be easier getting a switch off Trademe that is already rack mountable?

I have an old HP 1920 16 port switch that I am not using anymore that has rack mounting rails if you are interested.

This is a full size switch, so any 2U switch mounting bracket would probably do the job.

Why go and buy another switch just for the brackets, doesn't seem that difficult.

I got this one for nothing. I'm going to try my IT department when I get back to work next year if nothng comes up here anyway..

I have a mini shelf for the rack, but that takes 2.5U and I can't use that as I don't have the space.
I also have a brackets for a 2.5U high DVR, but that won't work for me either, even if I cut it down.

If all else fails I can bendup my own from aluminium, but I'd rather not do that as it's not as strong a steel.

If you aren’t adverse to drilling holes, perhaps you could butcher some angle brackets from someone like mitre10? Carinya Reinforcing Bracket

That’s an idea, personally, if it’s not a full rack width switch, I’d rather go with a shelf.
