Not sure where to put this, so please put where belongs. Looks like should be in LAN....

I am using one of those cheap huawei vodafone routers with my fibre.

I have a website I dont want them to be able to tell its me. I want to become a ghost. Nothing dodgy, I just dont want them to know its me using the site on occasion.

well put it there then, its not off topic

dont think you can change your mac address easily, but your IP you could try rebooting your device you might get a new IP address.

but as above use a VPN that will hide where you are and your IP address.

Doesn't matter what sort of router you have you can't change your public IP or your MAC address.

You could use a VPN, but since it seems you're wanting to do something dodgy there isn't any point in explaining why they'll still know it's you and be able to fingerprint your session to identify you. Trying to be truly anonymous requires a LOT more than simply thinking you are because you have a different IP address and/or MAC address.

MAC spoofing is a common router feature.

Isnt that normally for the connected clients though, not the router itself ?

But OP, as everyone else mentioned, a VPN is best bet along with using Chromes Incognito mode so no cookeis etc left on your system.

It's used on the WAN interface where the ISP restricts access to specific devices.

That sentence didn't quite come out on my phone as I intended.. Yes you can change your MAC address, but that isn't going to help you be private.

Incognito mode also won't stop browser fingerprinting and you can be very easily detected even if using incognito mode.

Why not? Im looking at how they identify users, basically via IP and Mac address.

My DNS doesnt change my IP, but a VPN would?

I thought most routers had a Mac address spoofing feature? I am just not sure how to use it hence why I am asking.

And no I am not up to anything dodgy, I have a forum I am a senior member on, that Id like anonymity for my Mrs so she can be a member as well.

Would using my phone and its data as a hot spot work? They cant read my device Mac as thats in the header for the router. So Id have thought the phone would have a new Mac and IP?

But I was looking to do it more along the lines of VPN and Mac Spoofing. Also they can see what OS and browser I am using.

PS: Jase, don't always be so quick to come up with churlish remarks. I had already contacted Freit to move the thread for me as I found this forum thread after.

Thanks to all trying to come up with ideas on how to help. Ultimately if somebody really wanted to know they could, but this isnt for dodgy use, Im simply wanting to have a profile the Mrs can use. Last time I tried they deleted it as they said it was me creating two account.

Just add a VPN extension to Chrome, you're waaaay over thinking it regarding MAC and IP. Even if you spoof your MAC, your public IP probably won't change.

Tunnelbear was always good - but I know people hate them now they are part of McAfee. But if it's just super casual usage, it will do the job.

Hi, your connection by account is associated with either the reported Port or in some cases user creditals via PPPoE. So changing your mac or IP will simply achieve nothing. Ie the port your account is associated with will in turn pickup the MAC of your router and obviously knows the IP assigned, you changing your MAC will achieve dot in relation to this.

If its just a forum, the only users who should be able to see IP info are the admins/mods. So unless the mods/admin have some beef with you, someone else connecting from your IP is gonna mean squat for other users as they wont know the IP.

Correct, they do. I dont want to go into it, but they thought I had created multiple accounts which I didnt. On a major wannabe cop small man trip over it. I even offered through to send through IDs etc, which was dumb on my behalf security wise. They will not listen to me anymore. But I swear I didnt do anything wrong.

The things I can see that show up are IP address and OS/Browser type

PPoE tunneling, thats how they tell if its me or not? Thats the first Ive read of this on the net.

True Mac is unlikely to make it passed the DNS servers. But the DNS server, my IP address, will tell them immediately its the same house. So to me it seems out side the above ppoe tunelling throry, its only my IP that needs a change.

For the times she wants to access the forum, it would likely be cheaper for her to use her phone IP/Data than for us to buy a VPN?

I asked ExpressVpn about their money back garuntee, its not as simple as if you join and pay and cancel they will refund you. Plus they have long term contracts unline DNS services like our friends over at DNS4Me

I pay $2USD for a VPN - not sure what the base data limit is though, as I was getting 60GB off the supplier for free anyway during a promotion. Think its 10GB for the free product.....
