I was wondering if anyone can help me with my bluetooth setup. I have a desktop which I connect to the internet thru a linksys router to the dsl modem. I just got a laptop and want to connect to the internet as well. I purchased 2 bluetooth adapter. One usb bluetooth adapter connected to the desktop an a PC card for the laptop. My desktop obtain its IP from the router which is as follows

Desktop IP: 192.168.1.100
Desktop SM: 255.255.255.0
Desktop GW: 192.168.1.1

Desktop Bluetooth IP: 192.168.0.1
Desktop Bluetooth SM: 255.255.255.0

inorder for my laptop to connect what do I have to set.

Another question I have is on the bluetooth configuration / Local Services tab / Network Access properties, It only has Authorization ; Authentication ; Startup Encryption check boxes and a Max.# of connection field. It doesn't have "Allow other devices to access the Internet/LAN via this computer" drop down.

I don't know if it makes a difference but I am using Belkin bluetooth usb and pc card adapters.

Any help will be deeply appreciated.

You have everything you need to share the internet connection. Make sure both computers are paired, and you can follow one of our Guides on how to share the internet with a Pocket PC to see how to configure the dekstop.

The laptop needs no configuration. Simply open the Bluetooth icon on the desktop and find the icon corresponding to your dekstop. Right-click it and select Connecto to LAN Access.

That should be enough.

Make sure your firewall in the desktop (if any) allows free communication to localhost from localhost.

The drop down list was introduced in later versions (1.3 and up), and Belkin currently uses 1.2, so that's fine.

Thanks Frietasm for the quick rssponse. But I am still a little confuse about this part.
"The laptop needs no configuration. Simply open the Bluetooth icon on the desktop and find the icon corresponding to your dekstop. Right-click it and select Connecto to LAN Access."

Since I don't have to do anything to the laptop, I opened the bluetooth neighborhood, right click on the LAPTOP icon and select Connect Network access. Then I get prompted for Username and password. After that it will say registering your computer to the network but it then times out with the following error.

Checking network protocol connections
TCP/IP CP reported error 718: The connection was terminated because the remote computer did not respond in a timely manner. For further assistance, click More Info or search Help and Support Center for this error number.

I checked my desktop setting on the bluetooth adapter the IP is 192.168.0.1 (Static) but on my laptop the IP is 169.254.46.165 with SM 255.255.0.0 (dynamic).

Any help will be appreciated.

You have to connect to the network from the laptop (client). I read your post and I have the impression you tried to connect from the desktop (which would be the server). Let me know if I understood wrong here.

You have to configure the desktop as described in our Bluetooth Guides (the one for H3970 for instance), and on the laptop you don't need any special configuration.

Them, on the laptop you open the My Bluetooth Places, find the icon corresponding to the server (in your case the desktop) and select Connect to LAN from there. You can also create a shortcut by right-clicking the icon when it's green.

Also, the IP on the laptop will be always assigned by ICS (a mini-DHCP).

Thanks for the reply again freitasm. For some reason its still not working.
Let me tell you what are the except steps that I have taken.
1. Copy the Desktop Linksys NIC info:

IP = 192.168.1.100
SM = 255.255.255.0
DG = 192.168.1.1

2. Right click on my Desktop NIC card and in the advance tab, check the internet connection sharing box.

3. Right click on my Desktop Bluetooth Adapter and statically set the IP info
Desktop Bluetooth IP: 192.168.0.1
Desktop Bluetooth SM: 255.255.255.0

Whenever I try to connect, I keep getting the same error.

OK, after playing with it for an hour I finally figure it out.

when I right click on my Bluetooth adapter on my desktop I put:
Desktop Bluetooth IP: 192.168.0.1
Desktop Bluetooth SM: 255.255.255.0
Desktop Bluetooth GW: 192.168.1.100

For the LAPTOP Bluetooth neighborhood,
I paired it with my desktop and authenticated.
I then right click on the DESKTOP bluetooth icon and select "connect to Network Access"
A Window will pop up asking for user ID and Password.
I input a user ID and password and then I select the properties tab
In the network tab of the LAPTOP, bluetoothNUll Connection properties, I manually put the following info.
IP: 192.168.0.3
DNS. MY ISP DNS

after that I select connect and load and behold, I can now connect to the internet via the bluetooth adapter on my laptop.

I Thank you everyone for their assistance.

:)

I got the same problem and fixed it by setting IP address 192.168.0.1 in the TCP/IP properties of the "BluetoothNullConnection" (select also "Use the following DNS server" and leave address field blank).
