Hi All,

I have connected my Telstraclear Cable Broadband to my Belkin N Wireless Router. I connected the router to my Vista x64 Ultimate SP1 (laptop) and configured the router to connect to my Telstraclear account. It worked great, internet connection status shows "connected" in the router home page. I connected my desktop and it worked great. My desktop is also Vista x64 Ultimate SP1. But I am not able to browse from my laptop. It gets connected to my wireless network, but I am not able to browse. I tried diagnosing network using the Windows Network Diagnose utility, it didn't report any problems too

. But if I connect my router to my system via the ethernet cable provided, I am able to browse.

I am able to connect to my wi-fi network and browse from my Desktop and my Mac, but not from the laptop. Any suggestions? Is there anything I can check in Vista? I checked by disabling firewall, closing my anti-virus, but nothing is working

Any help would be highly appreciated.

so your getting assigned a proper IP while on the wireless nic? Can you ping the router/default gateway? If yes, can you ping anything by IP externally?

I am able to ping my router/default gateway but nothing externally

I have a Belkin G and had some probs initially (we have 2 macs, 1 acer XP, 1 acer Vista)

when you log into the router (which i assume you can do from the vista machine?) have you got your wireless broadcasting on a specific channel or just automatic? i've also got mine on g&b; i also have it set as a DHCP server and set the pool addresses (although if you can connect with ethernet cable this isn't a problem) - when i wasn't able to connect wirelessly it was the broadcast channel and the SSID information that helped

if you're still stuck i can provide screenshots (if that's allowed)

given that i have a different model (ie G isn't as good as N) the one noticeable difference is the protected mode and the QoS settings

i have the first ON and the second OFF

i am also running on channel 1 (i have a vague feeling the the information i read recommended it - i'll try and track it down)

this is the information from the support page i found - if this doesn't fix it (ok - so you have a channel listed but maybe try changing it?) you can also go to the page i've listed and enter in the actual model number of your router and see what comes up there - HTH

SymptomNot able to connect to the router/AP wirelessly, or intermittent wireless connection. ResolutionTo address this issue, follow the steps below:
Note : The steps below are applicable only for Belkin routers.

Open an Internet Explorer window on your computer and type in http://192.168.2.1 in the address bar. This will take you to the Belkin router's web based configuration page. If you are not able to open the page click here.
You will get a login page. Leave the password blank. Click Submit .
On the left side of the page, click Channel and SSID below Wireless .
The wireless channel on the Belkin router is set to Auto by defualt. Change the wireless to a static channel. Click Apply Changes .
Click Logout in the top right hand corner.

Note: The wireless card in the computer will automatically detect the change in channel number on the router and will update the channel on the card.

CauseYou are not able to connect wirelessly mainly due to environmental interference. When the wireless channel is set to auto, the router will cycle to though channels when it detects significant interference. When the router changes channel the wireless connection will reset itself and disconnect all wireless clients connected to the router. SummaryWireless signals are prone to interference from cordless phones and electrical appliances (e.g., vacuum cleaners, microwave ovens). This is the reason wireless connections can drop. This article explains how to overcome frequent wireless disconnections by changing the channel number (frequency) on the Belkin router.

My router does not have 'Auto' entry for the channel. I changed the channel to 1, but it didnt work. So, I reverted back to channel 6.

I now have turned on Protected Mode and turned off 802.11e/WMM QoS, but its still the same. The internet in my Vista installation (in my laptop) is still intermittent

I reinstalled my Vista in my Macbook (D'oh...had to test it

) and still the Wireless didnt work

I now relaized there is certainly something wrong and called the Belkin Customer care. They also tried everything but were unable to fix and they think Dual Booting is a problem (Mac OS X + Vista). They are unsure whether Belkin supports Dual Boot. I couldn't understand this, but they told they will get back to me very soon

Anybody here dual booting Mac OS X + Vista and using same Wireless connection?

Called Belkin support (which was routed to India) and their response was very poor. They challenged me there is no problem with the router and it is me who is not able to configure it properly and also they blamed me that I am running pirated Vista in my Macbook!

I really got frustrated, hung the phone, went to Harvey Norman and replaced my Belkin with an Apple Airport Express. I came home, configured the Airport and tried connecting from my Vista (in my Macbook).Voila, it got connected and the internet worked!

I wouldn't recommend Belkin routers if you are using dual operating system. It is weird, but somehow it does now allow multiple operating systems. The support said they are unsure of dual operating system support and when I asked them whether they have tested it, they replied NO. Its a utter failure from Belkin Support and never ever would recommend Belkin products to anyone. This one experience is more than enough for me to stay away from Belkin!

It could be the Belkin, or could be the Bootcamp drivers supplied by Apple. I have an old Belkin here (very old) and Windows Vista worked ok with it. The only way to know for sure if you could trace the whole thing - from initialising drivers through connection attemps, actual communications, etc. Without doing it you can't blame one or another - you don't really know the root cause.

Either way this is not a case of "dual operating system" support. Once you boot into Windows Vista it's one OS. Reboot into Mac OS it's another OS. There's nothing from one interfering with the other so "dual operating system" doesn't have any impact.
