Currently trying to get to the bottom of "Can this old router do 300/100 Chrous/Enable speed upgrade"

had a google round the web and some sites indicate yes, so i am after real world answers, current setup ETH1 = WAN, ETH2 = LAN, LCD Disabled (Referencing a post re network slow down with it on) I will be looking to upgrade the RB2011 in the new year if it wont push the 300.

Cheers

I think I saw @MadEngineer mentioned they upgraded a 2011 to ROS v7 and gained a fair bit more throughput.

Yep, get v7 asap.

RB2011 will tank at 500mbps (Eth1-5 + the SFP) are all on a single 1gbps path to the CPU

but with ROS7 it should be fine for 300/100

I would suggest an RB4011 as a replacement with ETH1 and ETh6 was your LAN/WAN this is two discrete 2.5gbps paths to the CPU

Hi, i can assure you I have a 2011 in service on a 950/450 connection and Okla is reporting early 900s, this is on a 2Talk connection with pppoe, will login and get result link for you.

How does that work with only 1gbps path to the CPU, Fast Tracking?

Hi Fast track is definetly engaged, could not imagine how it could achieve that without, just on the road at the moment and my jump host has been taken offline due to a power fault at home, wife complained of cold shower this morning :( so just trying to access that site to get an updated speedtest.

I have to admit when I saw the result I was initially in disbelief, but it was true.

Results below, should point out its a busy network, so some of the ability to reach full speed may be due to network load

Because the path to the CPU is 1G full duplex. If you are pushing traffic in only one direction (i.e. speedtest download) then even though it traverses the link in both directions, you should get 1G minus whatever acks are going the other way (so 900ish Mb/s). If you push traffic in both directions simultaneously, then you will hit a 500/500 limit, but assuming the CPU is up to the task 300/100 should be fine (because 300+100 < 1000).

Hi yep ookla speed test does not well reflect all real life traffic situations, both duplex situations and short packets, that said in most real life settings it's a good Indicator.

@cyril7, Fantastic, im well aware of the 1gbps to cpu (500/500 full duplex) throughput limitation but as your speed tests point out its very achievable, and to that my good man i thank you for your time and effort with my query, looks like the rb2011 lives another round.

That all said an RB4011 is a fine bit of kit. Would look good in your network 😃

Yeah i did look into that, wont miss the LCD Screen, would slightly miss the USB port, and there was a couple of other things its currently not doing that the 3011/2011 is still doing.

But still the RB4011 is a nice bit of kit.

RB5009 is probably a better bet for most similar applications than the RB4011.

I want a RB5011iGS+5HacQ2HnD-IN should they make one :p

(MikroTik Routers and Wireless - Products: RB4011iGS+5HacQ2HnD-IN but as a 50)

Gowifi must have a laugh taking orders for those over the phone with those huge model numbers.  (Yeah they use sku's but where's the fun in that)
