Hi -

Hope the bluetooth gurus can help here.

I've got 3 machines - 2 running Win XP home (sp1) and 1 running win200 pro. Bought a usb bluetooth dongle with Widcomm 1.3.2.7 software. All are connected to DSL router by wi-fi (802.11b) network. DHCP server serves 192.168.2.X addresses

BT installs and works fine on W2K; on both XP machines DHCP fails on wireless (and wired) connections until I remove (or restore) the system.

Any ideas or do I take the dongle back to the store & give up on BT ?

You didn't explain how these machines are connected. Remember that if using CS you have to reserve the 192.168.0.x range for Bluetooth and ICS. One alternative is to use WinRouter. Of course we'll need more information on how these machines are networked before deciding what to do...

Sorry.

The machines are connected using an infrastructure wireless network router (not peer-to-peer or ad hoc). The router acts as a dhcp server for the network (serving 192.168.2.X) so there shouldn't be a conflict with the 192.168.0.x address range.

I'm not using ICS in the network since each machine connects via the router.

Hope this clarifies things.

Let's see if I understand your situation:

The wi-fi router provides DHCP-assigned addresses to a W2K and two WinXP machines in your network. If you install the Bluetooth dongle on your W2K machine all is ok, but as soon as it is installed in one of the WinXP the machine fails to receive a DHCP-assigned address.

Is that the problem?

Correct. No DHCP addresses assigned to XP machines with bluetooth h/w & s/w attached & installed. Bluetooth works tho' !

I got the same problem on my Windows XP pro. PC.

I am currently using Linksys wireless network card(WMP54G) and Linksys router(WRT54g), it works fine with my Windows XP professional desktop.

In recent I bought a Billionton bluetooth USB adapter and installed the bluetooth software completely (version 1.3.X) and successfully used the BT services. But after the installation of the BT hardware and software, my Linksys PCI adapter was failed to get IP Address information from the router, seems can't get the DHCP information although the connection was showed ok.

Ummm....do you have any idea on software conflict or else ??

Hi Charlie,

Still working on it. Noticed the Widcomm software is a suite of drivers not a unified one and wonder if it's a specific driver causing the issue.

When i get time I'm going to systematically install the hardware driver and see if it works and then install each device driver in turn to see if it's one specific device.

I have similiar setup with WiFi and BT. I'm using 192.168.0.X as my IP LAN range. DHCP is on, working properly and no problems.

BT and WiFi work very well together in my LAN.
