Hey guys,
I have kind of a weird question for you guys. What kind of Bluetooth setup would be needed to replace a USB cable or Serial Cable? It might sound like an easy question, but what the cable is being used for is kinda out of the ordinary.
For a couple of years now car enthusiasts have been able to custom modify their cars ECU/PCM/ECM. What people have been doing is installing EPROM chips, and sockets into their ECU's and using special programs and hardware (EPROM burners, ROM Emulators) to custom modify a car's settings (fuel injectors, ignition timing, cam timing, etc). Now in the past people have been soldering in serial cables or USB cell phone data cables directly to the car's ECU. What this does is allows you to look at the real world data the ECU gets from the engine sensors, this process is called datalogging. You can monitor things like coolant temperature, ignition timing, fuel injector pulse width, air fuel ratio, and a few other things.
Now that Bluetooth is available, people are trying to use this instead of the serial cables and USB cables we used to use. Which leads me to my question, how can you duplicate the same thing but with Bluetooth technology? The data flow would only need to go one way: from the car ECU to the laptop.
Any input on what kind of Bluetooth devices I could use for this?
TIA
