Help please I have a Microsoft bluetooth elite keyboard and mouse, now what I want to do is use my bluetooth headset for my mobile as a mic on my pc ie: chatting on MSN, I am told that the microsoft bluetooth stack wont allow this and I need to install widcomm drivers, now will I have to buy a new dongle to do this or will the microsoft one do the job?????

Yes, the Microsoft Bluetooth software won't support Bluetooth audio. You get Widcomm software (or even better, Bluesoleil, which supports stereo Bluetooth) when you buy a Bluetooth dongle.

There are some instructions on how to use the software with other adapters, but we don't have these here because this is copyrighted material.

Why not?

His answer was clear: No. the MS BT software will not allow you to use your audio.
His advice: try to get Widcomm sw or Bluesoleil sw for your dongle

Does anybody know what the future holds for Vista? Will MS actually be releasing a Bluetooth stack that supports more profiles? It's not very often you can say MS have something that is better in some respects than every other manufacturer on the market, it's just a pity they effectively crippled their Bluetooth stack with their choice of profiles.

I am posting this from Vista CTP Build 5270. I can confirm the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack is installed by default, and the Bluetooth dongle I have on this box was automatically installed (Bluetake). And there's no difference from the Windows XP SP2 Bluetooth sofware in terms of functionality...

What is Microsofts issue with releasing a stack that supports more profiles? The Widcomm stack has some serious shortcomings yet is the only option if you want to use Bluetooth to it's full potential!

This is going OT, but... I actually like the Widcomm, I am not sure about its shortcomings. You can start another thread and post them there.

But on my new desktop (not running Vista) I installed the Bluetake with Blue Soleil - which supports A2DP and other profiles. It's very good. And unlike the Widcomm it didn't cause any problem with the Windows XP SP2 software - just installed it and all worked fine, not even asked for a reboot!
