Hi all- first time poster. Hoping someone can help me... Trying to set up my iphone wireless connection, and accidentally deleted my DLink pin number on my laptop. Now I can't find copy of my pin anywhere & can't work it out. Other than buying a new wireless router, is there anyway I can access my pin or set up a new one to connect my laptop wirelessly again? Hope this makes sense, I'm not very computer savy. Thanks

Check your routers manual for a master/complete reset. It will remove ALL settings, including any internet connetion settings.

There is usually a small hole in the rear near the power input. The hole has a small button inside it that you can press by putting a pen or pin into the hole. While plugged in, press and hold this button for a few seconds and then let it go. Your front lights should start to flash and you should then be able to get into the router using your default settings.

Note: this will wipe your router settings of your home network details, and you'll need to re-enter and re-save them.

Yep used the reset hole but is still coming up as a network to connect to and needs a password. Am I looking in the wrong place or doing something not right? Any help much appreciated, thanks

Is this a browser prompt for password or is it windows asking for a wireless key?

If it's the browser prompt then have a look in the manual or use google to find the default password for this device. If it's the wireless key then your attempt to reset probably failed.

Can you turn off the wireless on the laptop and plug the laptop directly into the router? This will reduce the number of obstacles for you and should allow you to go in via your web browser and access the configuration/management screens. From there you may be able to display the wireless key or if that fails you will be able to reset it.

Here is a list of default passwords for router access. Find your relevant Dlink and see if it works.

As mentioned earlier, try connecting your laptop directly to the router. Then open a browser window and go to either http://192.168.1.1/ or http://172.16.1.1/ or http://10.x.x.x (usually, 10.1.1.1) and enter the default username and password for your router. This will give you access to the setup gui where you can setup all your passwords/settings again.

Hope that makes sense and maybe even helps a little.

You probably didn't need a new router - you should reset the router using the reset in the back (not only pressing but sometimes press and hold for a few seconds) and then use a cable to connect your laptop to your router for the initial configuration.

Cisco and Linksys routers for example have wireless disabled when you first turn them on, for security. They remain disabled until you configure a password and manually enable wireless, for example.

Also, another point to keep in mind is that, on most new Dlinks, you must hold the reset button in for 10 seconds, till the power indicator turns orange (or flashes orange, cant remember which. Whatever comes first)

THEN, you let go of the reset button.
