I wanted to extend my wireless network as it drops out down one end of the house.

I have a Thomson Wireless Modem, would plugging in a wireless router into this and placing it further down the other end work? Or would the Thomson modem not be cable of this?

Just after a cheap alternative.

Current modem is a TG585v8

I Have my Thomson Wireless Modem connected to a couple of Wireless Routers, the routers have bridges configured but it works great, i found the Thomson would overheat if I used the wireless feature, so now just use the modem function, which it tends to do quite well in my experience.

Yes you will be able to do this

You will have to plug a ethernet cable from the thomson modem into another wireless router via the lan port on each of the routers
Be careful to plug it in from one of the lan ports on the thomson router into the lan port on the second wireless router instead of the wan port on the second router

And disable dhcp on the second wireless router so it will get its ip from the thomson wireless router
