Hi,

I have Telecom broadband. They sent me the new Thompson wireless modem TG5845 v7, which i upgraded to. All good. I have configued all my wireless devices (laptops, printers, media players etc .. all good)

I have the old D-Link DSL-G604T that I used before left as spare.

i used to plug my Panasonic Blue-Ray Player into the old D-Link via Cat5 cable to use the players built-in You-Tube surfing. this is not a wireless device, so needs a cable to router for connection to internet.

I just used to run a long Cat 5 from lounge to the study where the rounter used to be.

Now, that this D-Link is spare, is there a way to use its Wireless connection features to connect the Blu-Ray to it via Cat 5 and connet the D-link to the Thompson Router wirelessly avoiding the long cable running in the house.

I read some bit on the net about being able to re-configure routers to Access points but there was not comprehensive set of steps on what to do.

Any ideas guys. (I am at < networks 101 level, so can follow steps, but not too knowledgeble beyond that)

Help appreciated. Thanks

To be a bridge, the other end has to support bridging and be compatible. Mixing brands is an exercise in frustration.

See if openwrt, ddwrt or one of the other firmwares has a version for your router, see if it supports client mode on your hardware, if it does then you are good to go, if not, sell it and get something that will do it.

Don't think the D Link supports acting as a wireless client bridge. Double check the manual.
