I have recently purchased a motorola HS850 bluetooth headset. When I try to pair it with my PDA I am seeing a serial connection instead of the headset connection. Can I use the serial connection to use the headset as a wireless microphone? And if now, what exactly would be the reason for a handsfree headset to have a serial connection?

You left the most important part behind: what's your PDA? Only a very few support Bluetooth headset, but there is not much help without this information...

it's an iPaq rx3118. I had already looked into this with another headset I had (H500) and it was not possible. That headset didn't give me any available services on the iPaq, this one is at least giving me the serial connection, but I don't know if I can use that to transwer audio information or if it is meant for something else.

I am afraid this is one of those Pocket PC that do not have headset profile support... The Serial connection you see as available could be something Motorola use to install firmware updates?
