XP machines routing table filling up with /32's?

My firewall machine has "issues" so I have my router plugged straight into the lan, but am now finding on my XP machines that the routing table is getting filled with loads of routes. This is on the machines that i obtain "content" and "linux iso's" on - but it never happened with the linux box between the lan and the routers.

Thought it might be RIP on the router, but that's set to disabled. anyone else seen it happen? Solution?

Was on one of them, have turned it off.

The routes are all to the router that is on slingshot that did not have upnp enabled anyway. will see how it goes. Next weekends task is to build up a new firewall machine, seems the 8 gig drive nicked out of an old xbox has finally decided to call it a day, so now I can give monowall or soemthing a go.

Almost certainly ICMP redirects. Is the default-router for the PC set to, say, 192.168.0.1 while the _actual_ router you want to use is 192.168.0.2?

No, the default router is set to the one that I want to use, and a windows 7 machine doing the same thing isnt getting the table fill up, just these 2 xp machines that I run utorrent on.

Both machines are statically assigned. I will try moving them inside and directly connecting them to the router and not have it plugged into the rest of the lan and see if that helps tonight.

Strange then. I'd still bet it's ICMP redirects (you can turn this off in the registry EnableICMPRedirect set to 0), since Windows does install those as /32s in the routing table, with a 10 minute lifetime.

A packet capture will tell you whether it is redirects, but not necessarily why they're happening...
