Hi folks,

I am very new to this whole wireless thing. I have just hooked up the said unit, and flashed it with the latest version of the said firmware. All good so far...I was able to log on to the web interface and followed the instructions http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireless_Access_Point

However, once the Linksys LAN port was hooked up to my ADSL router's LAN port and my laptop is disconnected from the Linksys LAN port, my wireless NIC cannot discover any wireless network. Well, I can't even begin to think what went wrong! It seemed like it should've been a fairly straightforward setup.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Dany,

You havent set it to hide the SSID have you? if you have you wont see it. Just a thought.

Not that I can remember. I can't recall there being any option to hide the SSID. Will check though...

How on earth do you get to reply so quickly?? The mind boggleth.........

It's all going thanks - a few quirky things I'm not so sure about though. I've set the transmitter power to 100 mW, which I thought is ample.

It made me wonder though, how much of the connection "quality" is attributed to the AP vs. the NIC? I have a Dick Smith "special" which seems to be working but not reporting great signal strengths unless I'm sitting in the same room as the AP. I don't want to pump the Xmit power any higher since, when I'm close to the AP, I imagine it will be screaming in the NIC's ear! There are a few other factors that I'm still trying to get my head around.

One is the ACK timing, which seems to be involve the two-way time between the AP and client. The other is the number of packet errors in the transmission. It seems to sit around 1.5 to 2.5% at the moment. Not sure if that's a reasonable figure.

Anyway, it's all good for now but I've always found RF-related stuff to be a bit of a black-art. May have a chat with you next time you're in, if I remember :)
