1. Your current ISP Name: Snap

2. Was Modem Supplied by ISP: Yes, but I purchased it from them, not part of plan

3. Model Brand/Model: FritzBox 7340

4. (Approximate) Age of Modem: couple of weeks

I was using a WAG160N, but I get frequent internet disconnects, and often my entire network would go down at these times with the WAG160N (not just the WLAN, even the LAN went down).

johcar: Just a bit of research I am doing for a wee project I am working on...

Could you please tell me:

1. Your current ISP Name:

2. Was Modem Supplied by ISP: Yes/No

3. Model Brand/Model:

4. (Approximate) Age of Modem:

I'm trying to establish a list of modems used by the various ISPs (or used by people with those ISPs)

Thanks

1. Telecom
2. I bought my modem / router / Wireless-N wifi.
3. Netcomm N300
4. 15 months old.

This is an excellent router. I had previously used much cheaper TP-Link (slows down seriously after 2-3 days) and D-Link (not bad, but unreliable. They - 3 of them - just....die.) and Linksys (the worst) routers..and they were all rubbish, requiring frequent rebooting to restore degraded performance. My Netcomm N300 sits there for months on end without intervention always delivering excellent speed.

My recent experience has been that cheap modem / routers are not worth buying.

EDIT: Reading through the responses to this thread - you are not going to get an accurate cross-section of society here - most GZer will not be using the ISP supplied modem. When I was doing mobile tech support (Up until about April this year), 90% of people I visited were using the ISP supplied modem.

Laughing I actually came to the same conclusion after about the 7th response!! A tech-oriented forum will naturally have skewed results when it comes to this subject... Geeks will be geeks and use the best toys they can find!

Still, interesting results....

Does anyone know where I might find a list of default devices that ISPs "give away"?

This is one of the things I'd like to establish (without having to ring them all!!)

I know Telecom gives away the Technicolor TG582n (because that's who I'm with) - the 582n router is a seriously stable device, especially when compared to the POS Thomson TG585 that used to be supplied...
