I can see the flatmates wifi from my shed just fine, but it doesnt actually work from out there. Same for my house AP.
The truth about wifi coverage is the ranges specified by manufacturers are total BS and are the distance where you can ping and perhaps load a webpage eventually, but are certaily not deserving of being called "working".
Also the blame goes to microsoft etc for not showing weak networks (less than -80dB) as "I can see it but your not going to be able to use it" or something.
We stuck a Ubiquiti UniFi-Pro in at work, no issues here now, plus its so good we can warm pies anywhere in the building, don't need to use birth control anymore and can listen to streaming music in our tooth fillings.
I get good wifi all round my house. Good enough. To stream netflix with no issues anyway. I do wish I had better coverage in my garden though, so I can sit outside in the summer and stream the cricket.
