Among other drawbacks of standard routers is that giving out a password to everyone is a capacity and security problem. It's nice to have an encrypted radio link too.
Richard you are obviously mistaken about how Zenbu works. You can learn how it works at the website. I guess you were given a 50MB access code by somebody who runs a Zenbu hot-spot. In fact the people who offer Zenbu can provide as much as they like, or that their backhaul can cope with. They don't pay Zenbu for any data they use. Zenbu controls the data for them.
If somebody installs Zenbu in their medical practice rooms, they could let people use gigabytes if they want to do so, but that would not be a good idea if they want to provide a reliable connection. In many situations, there is more than one user at a time and upload speeds are often an issue. Limiting the amount of data offered is needed to share out a connection. How much data individual businesses offer is up to them to decide.
