Thanks for your replies everyone. So I really need ot be looking at solid core cat6. It also seems that everyone agrees that STP is not required. I believe our electrician said that it would be a good idea, but if it isn't going to be any use then I miles well go with the cheaper option.

With the network switch, I've been thinking of getting an unmanaged switch. Can anyone think of a reason to go managed?
