I have UFB, and I use a wired connection on my PC, for performance. I use WiFi for my phone for web browsing.

Sure you may be able to go through a lot of work to get another 30Mbps, but is it worth the bother?

You could also invest in a WiFi adapter that works on 5GHz. From memory, a single channel 802.11N connection can go up to 110Mbps. I believe that the Fritz supports up to 300Mbps by using multiple channels (although other routers will do up to 450Mbps).

The wired connection will always be faster and more stable than wireless. It's just far less convenient.

I did myself notice a decent speed slowdown over WiFi. I did read somewhere about power saving and this causing issues. I used to get 28Mbp/s over WiFi and im now lucky to crest 13Mbp/s Ill try further testing tonight when its quiet but looking at my area i wouldn't expect it to be as bad as it is. (VDSL)

Another thing is it will sit infinitely scanning the local networks on that wireless environment graph.

Ran some tests,
16Mbp/s over 2.4Ghz, 15Mbp/s over 5Ghz. Now i am the only user on that entire spectrum? Why so degraded. The PC negotiates at 108Mbp/s and same with the phone. For 2.4Ghz it negotiates at 65Mbp/s which is max for 20mhz. Pings are fine, it doesnt seem to bounce around that much but a bit.

It wasnt as bad before but still totally retarded.

I ran cable from one end of my house to another and installed a few ethernet ports, installed conduit in the walls, and installed a second WAP, to get good performance. If you NEED that 30Mbps your options are cable, a different access point, or rolling the firmware back.

I was under the impression this is locked to 6.xx?
I dont know how AVM manage to release junk firmware. Every second darn week.

Got reply from AVM. Good news is that the modem can be downgrade to a beta version FRITZ!OS 5.23. See reply below:

6.03 also addressed it. This one appears to be a stability and DSL fix.

Might sort a few of those people scared to go 6.03 due to some reported failures here in NZ

New with FRITZ!OS 6.06:
-DSL: fixes a problem, that could cause certain line cards to crash when changing settings in the FRITZ!Box
-DSL: fixes a problem with bandplan 997
-system: general stability improved

New with FRITZ!OS 6.03:
-Security: removes possibility for unauthorized access to FRITZ!Box.

It now has all sorts of New Zealand specific settings listed. But still can't get it to ring-ring on the devices like test mode does. Live incoming calls are just riiiiiiiing <insert random gap> riiinnngggg

long as your not using myfritz, your fritzbox isnt exposed to the security issue.

i personally run 5.22, learnt my lesson upgrading to 5.51 (and a few 5.6x betas) just dont seem ANYWHERE near as stable..

on the note of wireless, its not an assured service at all.. i personally sit on a 60/10 VDSL line, and 90% of the time i can max out over wireless with ease on the other side of the house with fritz on 40mhz 2.4Ghz. there are some days when this will drop to about 30mbit. normally i see speed drops when one of the many neighbours reboot their router, and their auto channel selection goes, HEY! im going to jump in the middle of this channel ok? or Bluetooth transfers start up.

the fritz is a great device for seeing what your wireless environment is looking like.

worth noting, the 5.21 firmwares also have the green features, where they will pull things back.

Does anyone have the 5.51 firmware available in case I go to 6.06 and have problems? Best have it available now than later. I got 5.23 from the Fritz website.

Do you have to write down any settings before you upgrade, or does it keep them? I have saved my settings using the web UI.

for which fritz?

generally you can upgrade a fritz and import an old config in upgrade mode, but when downgrading mode you need to manually configure.. always backup and write things down.

if all else fails, long as you can get your connection online, snap will fix your VoIP etc..

i archive as many firmwares as i can, simply because AVM keep deleting the damned things when they decide its a "security risk"

no promises that you will be able to downgrade (just my little warning anyway.), a few firmwares have been seen to upgrade the bootloader on the fritz blocking older firmwares, rather frustrating really.. but recovery images might be able to push you back down there since that flashes instead of updating..
