TimA: I would assume a 5 port switch would actually be a 4 port with 1 WAN port or port for a CP to manage it. but that would usually be a serial cable.

Few if any manufacturers will bother making a managed switch that small :) They'll typically just be a bog standard 5-port switch.

TimA: TP Link switches have 2 year warranties im pretty sure and i compared one side by side with a cisco at my house, Both 8 ports and of same specs, TPLink was half the price and performed just as good. The Cisco died a few months back the and TP Link is still going hard. Nice to hear they are reliable
The one I just bought appears to have five identical gigabit ports. According to the router it's connected to, it's operating at gigabit full duplex so all good so far

Well I got a partial refund from the trademe seller, so now I'm only out a few dollars. Managed to get Mighty ape to price match down the TP Link to $29 (exld postage) so I'll pick that up. Eventualy I'll get the rest of the network up to gigabit speed too.
