Just make sure that where ever the ONT goes, you won't ever have to get it moved in the future. I hate to think what the cost would be to get the fibre guys out just to move it. It also has lights on it which are always on and which flash when data is being transferred. So you won't want it installed in a bedroom. And if it is going near the TV make sure the lights won't annoy you when watching TV at night.
I had to put tape over the blinking light on my smoke alarm in my man cave. Was so destrating while watching movies in the dark. I have a question, say things don't work out and I end up on wifi, I should still technically get better speeds that my current ADSL correct? But would it be reliable? Would I still get a better experience over wifi than say a hardwired ADSL?
I get 30/10 speeds on wireless-n after the install, in a 3 bed bungalow. I wouldn't expect wi-fi to give near full speeds on the faster ufb plans though, but have the ont and modem positioned to allow for future star wiring.
The Basic install (Now) is the ONT is installed with 5m of the external Point, where the external fibre cable terminates on the side of the house.
The cable from this point is an internaly rated cable and is clipped underfloors, through ceiling spaces and up and down walls as required to get to the point the ONT is installed.
Any capping, conduiting, ducting etc to cover, protect or hide the exposed cable is changeable to the end user.
The ONT has an ethernet port which supplys a WAN connection for the router (supplied by VF) to plug into. If the Router needs to be located in a different location from the ONT then the installers can run a CAT6 rated ethernet cable (with RJ45 sockets on each end) - it is run as above but is chargable to the end user (this must be arranged through your provider )
As you are haveing VF TV installed then VF will pay for the installers to run a single cat6 cable from the router to where the Set Top Box (STB) is being located (this is @ their expence - but as above capping, conduiting and ducting is @ the end users expence)
If the end user would like additional cableing run while the installers are there then this can be done.

I would suspect that why only one of your jackpoints work for xDSL is that your house has been wire with a master splitter with a dedicated xdsl jack
speed of a wifi connection depends on many thngs ( just speeding up your extenal connection may not make it any faster)

It all depends on what arangements are made between the council and the verious contractors as to timeing and condtions etc - but as we know sometimes some of the reinstements get missed and have to be followed up on.
