deadlyllama: TP-Link do a dual band router for $95 on pricespy (TL-WDR3600). It can run OpenWRT and friends, too.
wasabi2k: what sort of processors are in those? Some of the cheaper routers can't handle 100Mbps WAN throughput.
sbiddle: Slightly OT but I've got one of the new Netcomm NF8AC routers arriving tomorrow. This is similar to the NF4V offering ADSL2+, VDSL2 and Ethernet but has dual band WiFi with AC but lacks the voice ports. A model with the voice ports is due out soon.
Wholesale price is similar to the NF4V.
ubergeeknz: Thanks BTR. For now I'm getting a small dual-band AP from China, going to see how that goes .. at least it is cheap ($30 ish landed)

Alas -- EU plug, unlikely to have openwrt support or any GPLed source available to help with that. I will continue my search for cheap dual-band devices suitable for mesh networks.
