oh that's ok, I was going to offer some help but it's a little far to travel there from Palmerston North.

look at the Nanostation Loco M5's from GoWi-Fi.  they will do the trick.  you could probably use window suction cup mounts.  plug the laptop in the sleepout into the Nanostation.  this way you won't need a little switch or access point in the sleepout.

total cost probably $150 each end including window mounts

cheers

edit.. changed nanobridge to nanostation.

no worries.  if you decide to go with the Nanostations, let me know if you need any help with setup.  I can probably help remotely.

Thanks again - before I do that though, could you advise if this would work please?  http://www.alfanetwork.co.nz/downloads/1845969/N5.pdf  They are available on T/Me for $133/- . . . .

they are pretty much the same as the Nanostation but a little more expensive and I haven't heard much about the Alfa brand.
you would need 2 units to create a bridge.

putting one in the house as an AP probably wouldn't work well.  The laptop may not have a 5 GHz radio and the laptop radio still has to have enough transmit power to reach back to the house.

older units but if you got two of these for $40 then I'm sure you'd get a good link up

Ti: Illegal? Dangerous?

... if you assume that "extension cord" means a 240V power cable rather than an Ethernet cable.

another option is two of these.  i'd be happy to preconfigure these or the nanostations for you, so that you can just plug and play.

So many options all of a sudden!  Looking at the Nanostation 5 option mentioned above - if I can get those for the right price I'll try that - if not, expect a call!  :D

sorry, i keep typing nanobridge instead of nanostation by mistake.
the nanostation 5's will still need configuring as a PtP transparent bridge and probably a firmware update, so still happy to do this for you if you get them

cheers
