Sideface:
Zeon: ... I have heard that the Ubiquiti router is relatively easy to setup and not too expensive. I have mikrotik and its super complex so wouldn't suggest you touch that stuff.

I have a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite - it works well on a fast cable connection and was not expensive.
"Relatively easy to setup" is optimistic in my view - it took me many hours of research and trial-and-error to set up and I hope that I never, ever, need to change anything ever again undecided

"The bottom line is that this is not a router that the average router buyer should even consider. It is poorly documented, difficult to set up and will test your patience unless you have experience with the Linux command line, understand routing mechanics and know what router interfaces are and how to use them. Not to mention that it has only, at best, two LAN ports, if you are willing to delve into the command line to bridge the two. So you'll probably need to buy a Gigabit switch to go along with it."

In the end I downloaded some configuration files from here - they worked.

The Edge router lite has 3 ports. Sure you could bridge 2 of them, but software bridging is slow. And anyway it is far cheaper to just buy a gigabit switch if you need a switch. And if you do want a router with a few switch ports. There is the Ubiquity Edge Router PoE. And since all the OP needs is to just remove VLAN tags. You are only going to needs 2 ports for that anyway.

Sbiddle has also done a writeup on how to configure a Mikrotic router to remove VLAN tags. So would probably be exactly what the OP needs. http://www.geekzone.co.nz/sbiddle/8744

As for Edge router CLI, Yes it was a learning curve for me. Yes I had to ask for help on the Ubiquity forums. But it was worth it. My edge router is super stable. It's great not having to ever do router restarts. So more reliable internet. If I can get one working - Im a Plumber by trade with no formal IT training. Then surely anyone can. But I would still only recommend a Edge router (or a Mikrotic ) If you feel you have "outgrown" normal consumer routers.

As a recent convert, can I suggest pfSense? Either build your own box, or grab one from the pfSense store or Netgate. In fact it can be installed on a wide variety of x86 or x64 hardware. I seriously considered Mikrotik, but the lack of UDP due to their slightly odd implementation of openVPN put me off.

pfSense is cheap (free if you don't want to buy support), flexible, scalable, good GUI, easy to configure (relative to some other prosumer/business options), and has an extensible package system so you can, for example, set up a good UTM on the firewall/router. Oh - and it's plenty powerful enough serve as a "business" class router, depending on the hardware you choose to run it on (it's very efficient/low overhead compared with others out there, such as Sophos/IP Fire/Untangle). Worth a look, I reckon.
