Those devices are not WiFI extenders. They are Wirless Access Points that are powered over the same cable the data travels on.
Something like the DrayTek DAP710 can be put into Repeater mode to stretch/boost your wireless coverage.

One bit of advice based on the D-Link 4-port Powerline starter kit I picked up very cheaply and near new condition from TradeMe. You may get interference listening to FM radio if it's positioned near a power line device. I got round this by buying a surge protected power multi-board which features RFI and EMI filtering so once my tuner was plugged into this multi-board the interference went away. As you'll be aware the Powerline device needs to be plugged directly into a wall socket.
The multi-board I purchased was a "Jackson Powerboard Power Adapter, 8-outlets, Surge protected, TV + Phone Protection" which Ascent are selling for around $35 (inc GST and shipping). Has eight outlets, four of which are widely spaced to accommodate stupid wide power packs plus filtering for a phone line and a pass through for an "F" type antenna cable.
