richms:

Run it inside irrigation tube, that is like $7 for 20m of it at bunnings/miter10 and will give it some additional protection.

This or even a hose pipe.

Ive got standard cable hanging on the outside of the house at the moment, has been there for about 3 months so far with no issues. Will be running some capping around soon thos so its out of the elements.. if it does fail at any point, cable is cheap to replace and easily accessible to re-run.

I would not use garden hose type hose, I have many bits that have gone rock hard and split open where they have been outside, whereas ainciant black hose for the sprinklers is fine.

CYaBro: I've got a roll of gel filled cat5e if you want to buy some.
Should have enough for you to do one run with no joins required.

Thanks for the offer. I think I will try the el-cheapo way first with my own cable.

Will get back to you if I end up needing top quality cable.
