you cant use Asus Merlin on a dsl modem it dose not work merlin only makes it for routers only he is using dsl

A public reply would be more useful - and yes - it appears it doesnt support DSL.

 

 

He's been sending me PMs as well telling me I should have bought a brand new one, etc. A brand new one ($389) wasn't within budget.

The ASUS DSL-AC68U only came out in late 2014, they are a 'premium' domestic router.  I would expect them to continue to function normally well in excess of 5 years if they are not placed in a harsh environment...
