Hmm, getting more and more confused.

I went in to PB Tech yesterday and explained the situation.

They told me to buy the following (see image).

- 10m CAT6 cable

- RJ45 8 Conductor 2 way joiner (2 x sockets)

- RJ12 to RJ45 cable.

Plug one end of CAT6 cable into router.

Other end into the RJ45 2 way joiner.

Then RJ45 into one end and RJ12 to the phone socket.

So will this not work?

Also, can I expect the ISP to come out and do this free of charge???

The mother in law is currently with Flip (she's got landline and ADSL with them).

No, because dsl interface on router is not RJ45.

Ah, I see.
Bugger, so is there a converter, which will allow me to plug it in?
I was told that CAT6 and ethernet cables are the same (at PB Tech). So I guess ethernet cables hasn't got RJ45 plugs?

They are the same and have RJ45 plugs. You aren't dealing with Ethernet though so I'm not sure what your point is.

You need another RJ45 to RJ45 joiner and RJ45 to RJ12 cable + an RJ11/12 to BT adapter.

You don't need a converter. An RJ11 plug will fit in an RJ45 socket fine. It's still a total kludge, but you would have an RJ11-RJ11 cable at either end. In between would be an ethernet joiner at each end of an ethernet cable (basically to make the male RJ45 plug into a female socket).

All those joins aren't ideal, and the RJ11 cables will be untwisted so you want those as short as possible.

My mother in law is in Army Bay (Whangaparaoa).

Also, very very rough ballpark figure for them to do this? Have you got an idea?

He has (had?) a promotion for a $150 master filter install for GZ members. There might be travel and some additional costs on top of that if he ends up moving the jackpoint though.
