I was looking at the bigger version of the USG that is rack mount. Anyone know if they are all good with dual wan when I finaly get fiber here? Was planning on getting it and a couple of draytek 130s for now, and then swap to fiber one by one when it becomes available next year, but if the CPU is too weak to do load sharing and fall over out 2 connections I might not bother at this stage.

@richms honestly you'll have no issues even using an Edgerouter Lite or a USG-3 for this - the bigger rack mount units are quite overkill :)

Yeah but the rack ones will fit in my rack and not be a little box rattling around on a shelf, so they have that going for them. Just want to be sure that they can move 2 gig connections from wan to lan without bottlenecking.

Rattling on a shelf? Mount it on the wall :)

davidcole: Regarding @zollymonstas use of the voip port, I'm trying to use it as a 2nd lan for my ata. So for voip. But it never seems to connect. The network was set up as corporate (can't choose voip) on lan2 with a dhcp server in a different subnet.

But the controller never shows a connection and the ata never get an address. No idea why.

The Voip port on the USG can only be used as Wan2 at the moment, not for another Lan port.

That's my understanding, maybe in an upcoming update they'll include it.

Dual wan didnt do what I wanted from it which was allow a different wan for different users so my current mess of setting the default gateway on the torrenting/streaming devices to the second connection could be avoided.

And with needing to slash costs im getting rid of the second connection. Will be trying to hit up voyager to get chorus to see what they can do about the connection sucking, since they will now not be able to use the BS excuse that its from having 2 connections on the same leadin cable.

Other than the PITA setup process since it comes statically assigned to an IP that was not in my range, setup was easy, have now moved the controller to a cloudkey as well which gets rid of the old P4 server I was using as DNS/DHCP/whatevering which is the whole reason - saving money in power.

So it's labelled VOIP why?

So couple of other things....if I want ot change the IP address of the controller, anything I should be aware of?

And to get internet usage, I've ended up writing a update to my internet usage program which will pull the number of rx and tx bytes from the USG (the wan uplink) and this is the amount of internet used.

The 2nd port can be indeed used as another LAN port. You can configure it under settings --> Networks:

Also just remember if you break the WAN settings via the controller you'll need physical access to fix it otherwise changing the IP address of the controller (provided you're using DNS) will be fine. It is recommended to set-inform to a DNS name and not straight to the IP address since you can't set-inform again without a factory reset.

Yep, had that since day one:

But it never seems to be pushed to the USG - btw I only added the VLAN id after seeing posts that said it needed a vlan.

Is that forum post any help? Not sure what version controller you have   ..... but

It looks as if you have to be on a 5.5.x controller before it actually does anything, and that version is Beta program only at the mo.

Ahh weird. I have not tested it however assumed it was possible. Could be worth trying the 5.5 beta if you're running a local controller.

Yeah I do.  I've just switched the ip address of the controller machine to a more stable one out of dhcp range.  Will let that settle, then I may snapshot the vm and look at moving to the beta version.  Bit paranoid since it controls my gateway etc.
