Hi again

No luck with the Serviio.

Back to a previous post by Robjg, re 'turning on streaming' - I'm using Windows 8.1 and it doesn't have a straightforward 'turn on streaming', so rather I've used "Network and Sharing", set up a home group and allowed sharing of basically everything except documents.

When I look at the local network I can see my laptop, my husband's laptop and an "Unknown Device" which I presume is the Panasonic ...

Can anyone think of anything I may have missed, perhaps in sharing the files or anything with Windows 8.1?

if serviio is setup correctly you should be able to go to http://192.168.xxx.xxx:23423/console/#/app/welcome (change the xxx.xxx to the ip address to the server PC) from any computer and see your console.

make sure you have allowed access to new devices on the status tab

you should be able to see the server from any networked computer, if you can then the issue is with the TV/Blue-ray

Thanks Jase, sorry I should have said I can see Serviio on my Network, also Mezzmo which I set up earlier.

So under ‘Media Devices’ I can see my laptop, Mezzmo and Serviio. Under ‘Computer’, I can see both mine and my husband’s laptops, plus now ‘Vodafone’ which has for some reason replaced the TV ‘Viera’ icon I could see previously. Perhaps this is because I was faffing around with LAN cables from the Panasonic units to experiment?

I expect I’ll now have to reset the bluray network …

So I’ll do that and report back.

Thanks again particularly Jase and RobJg for all your help – it’s really appreciated as I haven’t a hope of sorting this out myself :-(

can you watch items that you have shared via serviio on other devices?

im sitting here now and i have a folder in the windows explorer tree called serviio, opening that shows me all my shared files and i can play movies etc via there. i access the same "folder" via my other devices, which are a 2011 LG TV (not a smart one) a DishTV Freeview box and a 2011 WDTV Live + all my computers, 3 android devices and a iPad

non have issues accessing the shares

Aaargh ...

The only place I can now see the Viera TV (which defaults I guess from the Panasonic Bluray which I have set up for the network) is under "pairing" in Bluetooth settings.

It doesn't show up at all on either my Homegroup nor Network. I do see Vodafone alongside our laptops, but no reference to any Panasonic device.

Any ideas guys?

Perhaps I'll have to 'get a man/woman in' to take a look at it. Only problem is we're out in a rural area so getting someone here would be a little difficult.

Ignore the TV - I thought you were trying to get the blu-ray to be the DLNA client?

Vodafone is just your internet router - windows is showing it as a network device - thats fine.

Make sure serviio is running on your PC. (Maybe uninstall that other mezzmo? product you mentioned you installed).

Add a folder containing a couple of test videos to serviio (the youtube clip showed how to do that I think).

Make sure your PC is connected to your network (wifi or cable).

On the blu-ray you have checked the network settings and they all pass? (looks like manual page 23 had a bit on that).

So if the blu-ray passes the network tests, it looks like you press the [HOME] button on the blu-ray (page 39 of the blu-ray manual I referred to) and you follow the instructions to try and see your home home network.

Isnt it showing any clients at all?

The blu-ray has to 'see' the serviio client thats running on your PC.

Through my husband's laptop I can see my own laptop and play videos etc. from there on Windows Media Player.

I can see Serviio from hubby's laptop but when I try to see anything I get the message that the folders are empty - they're not.

By the way, from hubby's laptop I can also view files my laptop via the Mezzmo which I set up on there (my laptop).

But nothing from Serviio, and still can't see any Panasonic devices on anything :-(

PROBLEM #1 SOLVED :-) I swapped the HDMI cable around into the ARC slot and now I can view the PC on the TV screen via cable.

Problem # 2 - DLNA issues - still hounding me :-D

seeing the tv or bluray on the PC means nothing, dont worry about this

you need to get serviio working so that you can see its folders on other devices untill you can do that nothing is going to work as it should.

You can probably see the TV because its also a 'DLNA client' - for now - ignore that.

Sounds annoyingly close...

It is possible that perhaps something on your router is blocking the required traffic - what sort of router do you have?

The make and model might help.

Also - some antivirus products can apparently block some network traffic - what antivirus do you use?

Around 3.35 there is a bit where you can check what 'clients' the serviio server can see - is your blu-ray in there? I guess it must be.

There are 'profiles' against the clients - what does it show for your Blu-ray player.

There are various 'profiles' and these dictate what the serviio server does when it starts talking to a client. In some cases certain clients might only be able to cope with a certain filetype/file format. It is possible for serviio to know that the client cant cope with certain files - so it can convert the content on the fly and start streaming something to the client that it can cope with. This requires quite a bit of resource on the server. Have a look atthe profiles against your blu-ray and see what options there are.

Sorry - havent played with serviio for a very long time - someone else may be able to give advice here.

Yes I can see the Serviio DLNA server from the Bluray.

The router is an Alcatel-Lucent, model 9361 Home Cell Askey V3.

Is it worth mentioning we also have Voadfone's Sure Signal box?

Our Antivirus is Trend Micro.
