TimA:

Download Deluge and let me know how it goes. I have noticed that client is the best for these sort of situations. Seems to be the easiest to configure too.

What client are you using?

Does the HG659 have QOS ?, set surfing to highest priority and lower torrents

But get your self a router that can handle a heap of connections

The HG659b is an exceptionally powerful router.

It's not hard to cripple any router out there if you set the number of connections high enough.

+1 to that. I have never had issues with the 659 and it has performed better than most "High end" consumer routers with throughput. Go find me a router for the same price that can handle a gbp/s fibre connection.

Originally bittorrent, have now tried utorrent. Downloaded deluge but when i loaded it up it appeared to have a lot less functionality/info columns that the other 2 so didn't bother with it as i also figured trying 2 different clients should be enough to rule that variable out. I will give it a go though.

I guess i would reluctantly use a client with less functionality if it fixed the problem, it just irks me that the better modem has problems where an older one doesn't.

I use deluge. Not sure why you think less columns means less functionality?

I purely use the Web UI and can do a lot of settings via the preferences.

Everything you should need.

Oh, and I'm also using the HG659

My relevant Deluge Global Bandwith settings:

Maximum Connections: -1 (unlimited)
Maximum Half-Open Connections: 400
Maximum Connection Attempts Per Second: 100
Ignore Limits On Local Network: Checked
Rate Limit IP overhead: Unchecked
Maximum Upload Speed: 100

Has never killed my internet / router.

Mattrix is more clued up than i am in this area, Im just a power user with a bit of experience..

Deluge has all the functionality you require. It actually has more ability to sort files after download and during the download than utorrent which i feel is a lot better as i download to a SSD/RAMDISK and store to a HDD.

The only thing it lacks built into the client is RSS. Even then you wont be using that.
It looks minimalist but works the best in swarms and guarantee will pull the best figures over any client. Trust me ive been there done that.

Oh yeah, Would hate to think what info utorrent/bitorrent are looking through on your PC. Also those ads that they have. Not cool.

Are you running your thin client remotely or just locally?
Or do you have little boxes offshore :3

I stopped seeding but if you ever check the leaderboards on IPT and Scene access you may see CaptainRatio  running about ;)

Do you have a gigabit NIC on your PC? Assuming you are connected by cable.

I run it on my little headless NAS (Odroid XU4).
Then can VPN into home and easily get some torrents on the go ready for after work.

Also use Chrome delugesiphon extension for easy automatic sending magnet links to it.
And Transdrone Android app for same on phone.

If you don't like Deluge, I highly recommend Tixati.

Cool ok I will try that. cant remember exactly what the perceived lack of functionality was. Perhaps i was just a bit disorientated as preferences and appearance is all a bit different whereas bit /u torrent look almost identical. I use private tracker so have settings from the FAQ on the site which i need to adhere to. Its possible i couldn't find where to set these up in deluge. Will have a crack and report back.

Re last question, Local and remotely but local is where my issue is, and mainly an issue because its a private tracker so need ratios up, and need seeding as long as possible, so even if its not actually sharing much data, i need client on. No good if that means internet is dead all that time! How you get access to ipt and scene access? Have seen those trackers on the shared box i use but none of my so-called mates have been forthcoming with an invite :-b

I think the discussion of these private trackers is on the edge of our FUG. I got into it years ago and have had access for a while.
You need to know someone with it, I got invites etc.

Dont worry about the local and remote question, That was directed to matt regarding where he had his seedbox and how he controller it.

Deluge is the most aggressive in a swarm and will get you the best ratio from all the tests I did and friends also. Remotely I ran servers in the Hetzner data center all with 10 gig links and 128GB ramdisks and 8x ssd's in raid 0 It was a savage operation. I didnt give a flying heck about stability or any of it. Lost an entire server weekly and was a PIA but got me TB's of ratio in no time.

Deluge out performed the other option at the time which was ruTorrent which AFAIK is based on bitorrent.

I also torrent locally often on things and my internet has never totally died. Gone stupid slow yeah, but still gets stuff done. That was with many different routers but I have never used the huawai here. Current is the unifi USG, before that was the netcomm nf4v.

If you need to maintain ratio then you really need to be running a seedbox and jumping on new things as soon as they go up since you will be competing with everyone elses seedbox. Perhaps on 500 meg upload you have a chance, but for most connections people will be joining the swarm, completing and then another seeder by the time you get one or 2 blocks out to them on a laggy home internet connection from the other side of the world.

Sorry gents, no luck. Soon as i fired up Deluge the internet stalled and timed out as with the other clients. I had more conservative numbers than above also, although i didnt use the web UI. Had a go at that but couldnt make heads or tales of it. Just came up with blank command prompt screen.

Neglected to mention, my system is ancient, Core 2 duo or some such thing, running 32bit Win 7. This may seem relevant such is the cruddiness of it, but again, i didn't think it particularly relevant when my older router works fine with client. Just wondering now though, is it possible it could be a combination of my systems inability to 'keep up' with newer router? I have no idea but that would at least make sense in terms of what components are at play when this is and isnt happening.

Short of that i think im running out of answers / suggestions. Is it also possible that a faulty router could explain this if all other functionality with the router seems to be fine?
