Thus said: https://en.avm.de/service/fritzbox/fritzbox-7590/knowledge-base/publication/show/1349_Status-message-Radar-detection-DFS-wait-time-triggered-by-channel-assignments-5-GHz-temporarily-unavailable/ it's maybe just a question of technical challenge or not.

However, the Fritz did and it's operating nicely in the vincinity - for the other 1.8 million inhabitants of the city as well (including intl. airport with it's weather radar). I fear now I have to chase away the neighbors from one of my only 4 channels by putting the GWN7160 RF power (unfairly) to the max, hoping they will hopping away. smile

Sorry that I've not respond for quite a while.  Was very busy at work this week.

Thank you all for looking into this.  Having nine 20MHz 5/5.8 GHZ channels is not bad, but not ideal.

Finally got around to doing a brief walk test to check out signal strength distance. It's completely dropping off at about 50m for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Less than I expected (it's broadcasting on high power) but still pretty good. I ran a cable up the leading edge of the underside of my stairs then across to the AP. Not a particularly good photo but gives an idea of the unobtrusiveness of the AP once it's mounted. To give a better idea of size it's about 20cm diameter and has a mounted depth of about 5cm.
