Yes the allow you to set up a guest network. Have a lot of options to lock down access by time and device if you want to limit your kids etc as well. Plenty of features of you start looking and want to try a few things
I have a router guide in my signature that could help but take a look at the Ubiquiti AmpliFi (Here)
Provides very good wireless, and is a very good router. Ubiquiti have a very good history with their enterprise grade products also and have shown to keep improving the firmware of this router.
The router can be plugged in to your Cable modem and configured with VLAN 10 with DHCP. It also looks nice so no need to hide it away.
Another +1 for Amplifi here.
However I went for 2 x AFI-R routers rather than the 3 piece mesh system
- 2 x AFI-R are cheaper than the 3 piece mesh and I only need 2 well placed APs to get great coverage of my house
- 2 x AFI-R allows you to use Ethernet backbone rather than Wifi and the added benefit of another 4 LAN ports down the other end of the house where my games/media room is located
Just remember that consumer grade and decent are for the most part mutually exclusive.
If you want truly decent +1 the guys who have suggest Ubiquiti etc. Especially if you are talking about using the roof space, you give yourself the space/ability to use some decent high gain down tilt antennas such as https://gowifi.co.nz/omni/ant-69.html which will get the coverage out to the edges of the house with out being un-neighbourly and blasting everyone else.
I have set up friends with Ubiquiti gear on decent antenna's and they are head and shoulders above anything you will buy in a consumer shop.
