Have a look on Google Earth. If you can identify your neighbourhood, you can get a pretty accurate guess as to the exact GPS coordinates you need.
How important to you is it to get connected to this access point? It is easily done, however would require a multi hop bridge link. Instead of trying to go through the building, you bounce the signal around it. To work reliably, you would not be wanting to do it using cheap equipment though.
If it were in NZ, from the descriptions you have given so far, it would probably cost in the vacinity of NZD2-3k.
Hi. Got some updates. I was waiting for a 400 cable which is the reason I couldn't test the setup any earlier. Anyway, I didn't even mount it permanently because the range is so disappointing. I just can't believe this damn thing. 19dBi flat panel antenna and a powerfull 1 watt amp, all mounted on top with view to all city. I thought I would get a signal from the whole damn city down here. Instead of that, I can't even get the signal that I need which is just like 1.5 km away from here. This is truely amazing, with all the gear at hand. And also, I didn't even see the free hotspot at the coffee shop in which I am sitting daily at drinking my coffee and reading the newspaper. That coffee shop is also around 1 km away from my home. With that kind of horsepower of my antenna and the amp. how come for criest sake i can't get even that signal. It's true that there are some small buildings in better, but it's not like it's new york city here or something. Also, I don't have an option to go across the buildings with multiple bridges, as I obviously don't have just access to go in the city and install antennas on rooftops :) I was wondering if purchasing a 23.5dBi antenna would make a difference, they sell such here its called logritmic or something like that. Problem is the damn thing is almost 1 meter in diameter, Gee, it's bigger than my sattelite TV :) I need simple sultions. Even if they are a bit(not too much) costy I can do so. I even though about getting a 2 watt amp here cause it's totally legal to import it down here, but now I am not so sure that even a 2 watt amp will do the job :(
Bear in mind that at 19dBi, your antenna is very directional. If you don't have it pointed perfectly, you are going to miss any signal anyway.
They other factor that could be conspiring against you is polarisation. If you don't have the polarity of your antenna's aligned, you are never going to get a reliable connection - try rotating one antenna on a bridge link by 90 degrees and see what it does to your signal.
Of course having said all this, there is a building in the way, you are never going to pick up any signal at 1.5km through a building.
