This is all good advice, but OP - if you're not a technical person, and it sounds like you're not, don't get a Unifi AP. They're excellent kit, but they require you to setup a management interface on a different computer. Most routers and APs just run their management system onboard, which is much simpler.
Amplifi is a very solid Wifi AP by the same people as Unifi, but it's targeted at the average person, so is very simple to set up. Get that if you're not confident about setting up anything more complex, and as a bonus it will replace the router entirely. I've heard the Amplifi handles up to around 800mbps, so not quite an entire gigabit connection.
