I did the free router upgrade last week. I rang up 2 degrees and said if I resigned for 12 months would I get a new router? They said yes and it's a Fritzbox 7590. 7590 has more wifi radios in it (4) so I can use it as the centre node of my mesh system. The good thing about fritzbox is the old router can now be a mesh point. Fritzbox is not wifi 6 it's worth noting but the price was right.

To get a decent signal to your TV I would use a powerline adaptor or put a mesh access point next to the tv and plug the tv into the eithernet on the mesh point. This way your TV is using the awesome wifi in the mesh point not whatever it got shipped with.

Plex is hard to get a reliable steam from in my experiance.

I only wish the new FritzBox had WiFi 6. These are one of the best modems out there. I needed the WiFi 6 standard due to me working from home. Otherwise i would have a FritzBox hands down.

The FritzBox UI is one of the most polished out there.

If your wifi is fine generally around the house apart from a couple of high bandwith requirements, consider a powerline adapter and you can 'hardwire' that particular TV. The more expensive ones can also be an additional wifi hotspot at that end of the house.

I think the next one will have it. I agree Fritzbox, it's not google so I don't think it's spying on me. I feels like well written software. Germans don't make crap stuff. A good sign was when they added mesh functionality to all their old models as opposed to using the upgrade to try and sell new hardware.

My wifi 6 is Ethernet cable plugged into the router. I spend all day on teams calls so the internet quality and consistency is important to me.

I am wishing I had got the whole house wired with Ethernet when I built it. I put one cable in which has recently developed a fault so I am using powerline adaptor for that access point. I am wondering about converting the phone lines in the house into eithernet or at least using those cables to pull new cat 6 through.

So I have a power line adapter. 1200mbps. But the issue is that the client doesn't have LAN port. It relies on Wi-Fi unfortunately.

is it true that to be on wifi 6 every device connected to the SSID needs to be wifi 6, a single device not wifi 6 will mean the entire SSID will drop down to the lowest level?

It's not what i believe. it's the IT department that has determined this. My Laptop is a HP Elitebook with WiFi 6 connecting to the router. i personally would have run a cable from the modem to the computer, however they said, "oh no.. we will get you a WiFi 6 modem to cope and you can't have cables over your home with kids"..

So i have a new modem which is the upside..

I just was asked the same thing in an earlier post.. I see no benefit, however someone in IT thinks there is...

On that topic, what is the benefit? i think an Ethernet cable is the only solution..

Issue is that the device I'm playing Plex - MiBox S and also Chromecast Ultra they both don't have ethernet port. Otherwise my 1200mbps powerline would have been great. TV has ethernet port but it is the old LAN port, not gigabit speeds.

Mind you this is just for the spare room tv, our main living room set up is all hard wired and working flawlessly thanks to Shield.

If you're not using WiFi6 client devices you are going to see zero* benefits from buying a WiFi 6 AP. Likewise with WiFi 6 clients attached to a device with legacy AC clients many of the benefits of WiFi 6 will not be seen either. It's not until you are truly in a 100% WiFi 6 environment that the benefits are truly visible.

*I say this because while there are some benefits from the use of legacy devices on WiFi 6 AP's, in your case you will struggle to see any of these benefits, and you will certainly not see any performance benefits.

Yes, same as my older TV which is 100mbps. Wifi speeds are definitely better than this where the TV is sitting..

Connect a mesh wifi point to the power line access point and sit it next to the tv.

A reliable 100mbps eithernet connection beats intermittent wifi any day.
