richms:

Suggest real wifi gear fit for purpose rather than using consumer routers that are made to be the only device on the network. Spark have the new router and extenders that have great praise that you can find other threads on here on, or there are plenty to do with unifi or other propper wifi accesspoints. Using the free routers like that just leads to disappointment as you are finding.

Your proposal of a switch upstream of the router will not work correctly.

Yeah I'm all up for the right mesh network, only if money was not an issue. Trying to help with minimum finance.

that's all I wanted to know :) ONT has to go to ROUTER WAN and further down the network WIFI access points or switch.

cyril7: Hi just read that there are two cables between office and garage, then most definitely put the router in the garage as well and put all traffic on the one switch. And put a small switch in the office, although that looses WiFi in the office without another wap, was that what you are thinking?

Cyril

I'll have a WAP near the office so it shouldn't be an issue.  I think two or three WAPs will cover the house nicely.  I may also end up buyiong a UDM to replace my current router,a nad that could act as WAP in the garage, because it would cover quite bit from there

I've been rethinling this project.  I currently have my MF Printer sitting on a repurposed outdoor coffee table.  It's located in a corner between the desk and the wall.

I could replace this table with a cabinet and just have all the gear in the office.   I have enough room for cabinet with eternal dimensions of 800W x ~8000H x 600D.

I'm not looking for a rack system, just a suitable cabinet that will look nice in a home office and is ventilated etc.  Does anyone make cabinets like that?  Everything I have found online looks rather industrial.

I can always make something, But I'd rather go off the shelf.

be aware it will be noisy if any of the gear has fans in it.

Why not just buy an open set of shelves?

Only the NAS and one of the RasPi will have a fan.

I prefer a cabinet to shelves because a cabinet looks tidier and accumulates less dust.
