rhy7s: I've got the spectrum to myself, so I've got kilometres of range from 2.4GHz equipment around the property. Just wish they'd taken the 4 colour theorem into account when spectrum was initially assigned, would make the overlap so much cleaner. Using channel 13 almost gets you there but you can't rely on all devices seeing it.

Oh to live rural.... what are your broadband speeds though?

Fixed wireless which is 30-40Mbps down and 6Mbps up. I have 5Ghz bridges around where cabling to other points of the property would be too much hassle but the devices that need speed between them are on ethernet.

Not really a make-or-break decision. It's not like you are selling it off or irreversibly killing it. Be daring, turn it off and see what happens - experimentation and experience is a great way to learn (in the right context of course!). It is free to try and if doesn't work out, it is free to turn it back on.

I turned if off at friends apartment (being neighbourly and all) and they haven't experienced issues. I turn it off for weeks and months at a time at my place and only turn it back on when working on an old laptop/phone etc. It hasn't worked for some people, but that doesn't mean it won't work for you. The band is pretty congested and it may improve the neighbours wifi performance. It could also have unanticipated benefits like improving the performance of wireless devices like L.L. cordless phones, baby monitors, wireless video senders etc.

I another not I am miffed my two original Unifi AC Pros are going to be EOL as of Next year
