They use a particular 4pin connector so not likely to be any use, and as mentioned typically 60 odd Watts required.

I know the 4pin sockets you mean however this one appears standard to me... Could be wrong.

Here's a better shot....it is standard. That said the original power adapter with a NZ lead would be best...

just use the supplied power supply and change the input cable to a NZ one.

How could a NAS with two HDD's draw 65 watts when an average drive needs less than 1A? I doubt it draws more than 30 watts.

The stock 65 power supply would be the same supplied with all units including the 6 drive model.

Hi, well thats the first time I have seen a standard 2.1mm DC socket on one, clearly a design change, over the years I have procured and setup probably 50 of these things for clients and they all had the 4pin plug.

That said I normally use the x86 based units and just checking a DS720+ on the Syno web site it states a 65w supply and checking the QIG it shows a 4 pin, so clearly these smaller Arm based machines are way more efficient.

So yes you are correct you could get by with a 12v 1.5A supply from anywhere, but in the OP's case it will be deliverd with a supply with either a IEC or 8 AC socket on it and 100-240V 50/60Hz so all he needs to do is source an NZ/AU power lead to IEC or 8 at the hardware store/Jaycar etc

Thanks all, appreciate the feedback.

My preference is always to support NZ retailers, but the pricing gap on the DS220+ is hard to ignore. I said Amazon is $260 cheaper - that is comparing against a ready-to-go option in NZ with preinstalled disks. My preference is to purchase components separately and do the install myself, and this pushes the price differential out to $350 from best NZ price.

You cannot beat their prices, I got 4 12tb WD portable drives to shuck for $350 each thats almost $300 less per drive than I can get them here.

@JaseNZ any chance you can point us to listing for the drives....running out of space with my 3x2TBs and considering the move to 3x6TB as Amazon have Toshiba N300 for $USD169.99+gst and shipping, but 12Tbs would be great.

Ok, new Synology DS220+ arrived from Amazon US along with two 8TB WD hard drives. Everything was inside one large box with no internal packing, so the fragile electronics free to slide/move around inside the box! The hard drive boxes had been opened, so I'm wondering if customs inspected and removed packing at time - anyway, poor form somewhere along the way given these can be easily damaged.

For initial set up, I removed the NZ power cord from my old DS212j and connected to the power supply of the new DS220+ - the power box LED lit up for several seconds, then died. Unplugging, replugging made no difference, the power supply was dead. A moment of panic given I'd sourced this from the US as I thought about the pain of returning it to Amazon. I then re-plugged the cord into the old DS212j and discovered it was dead as well - it turned out the power cord, after 10 years faithfully powering the DS212j died with transferring to the new NAS. I grabbed another cord from display monitor and, hey presto, DS220+ sprung into life.

Thats one of the reasons why whenever someone round here says help my xxx won't boot and there's follow-ups about ram and psu's and mobo's my suggestion is just check the power cord.

Also had the thing with (lack of) packing from the US, different supplier though...
