Didn't have any luck.

 

Used Etcher and it said it had successfully written to the new USB.

 

Note: I didn't format the USB Stick. I think it was EXT (?)

 

I never thought about the ERL3 case screws and they are really tiny.

 

I could only get 1 screw out and damaged the other two, so drilled them out

 

Put in the new USB stick, powered up, but nothing. Tried a couple of times.

 

Put the old stick back and am up and running again.

 

Put the new USB stick into my NUC, there are 2 partitions.

 

Partition 1: FAT32, 5.52 mb used

 

Partition 2: Properties doesn't seem to recognise it. I am sure at one stage it asked whether I wanted to Format it. I didn't.

At my wits end now.

 

Had wi-fi issues since I put the original USB stick back.

 

5Ghz is a dead loss. Nothing seems to connect to the SSID.

 

I am using 2.4 Ghz for this email on a Dell laptop (1 year old) because 5GHz will not connect.

 

Another Laptop can only do 2.4Ghz and that is OK.

 

The NUC will do 5Ghz (occasionally) for 30 seconds and then drop. It will connect at 2.4Ghz.

Can't understand it.

 

Re-started ERL3 and AP's (a few times) and the NUC I am writing this post on will connect at 5GHz (as will the Dell).

 

Would really like to replace the ERL3 USB stick.

 

Any ideas on why the USB stick was not recognised.

 

PS I read the post on 'Red Boot', but I don't know what Red Boot is (and didn't seem to find it with an Internet Search).

This is sounding more like your access points. Tested via Ethernet?

I can connect 3rd via Powerline.

You need to test via Ethernet. Not wireless on your devices.

This is what you need to do using a serial console cable such as a Cisco one which is what I used to change the bootcmd.

Hi, I see you are using powerline links, can you not replace those with ethernet? These devices are horrid, yes lots of folk swear by them, however they are a continual moving setup that has to work around issues in the power network continually as 50Hz load is added and removed. So what seems a good stable fast connection one minute can turn to custurd (deliberate sp) and not pass anything the next.

 

I spent a good 5yrs working on a project that designed in power line carrier systems, this was before the newer OFDM chipsets came about as a way of working around the continual changing network a power system provides. However my observation is yes these newer chipsets help fix the problem, but in reality only partially as a result I would never use one in any network I use. YMMV

 

This post is simply responding to the erratic wireless connection you are seeing, not the router issue.
